OLAFUR ELIASSON


Olafur Eliasson studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1989-1995. Eliasson spent much of his childhood and youth in Iceland as his parents are icelandic. Today he lives and works in Berlin.

Eliasson has had numerous exhibitions all over the world, including the Venice Biennial (1995, 2003), P.S. 1 in New York (1997, 2008), Kunsthalle Basel (1997), Museum of Modern Art in New York (1998, 2001, 2008), Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (1998, 2002), Castello di Rivoli (1999), Art Institute of Chicago (2000), Serpentine Gallery in London (2000), Kunsthaus Bregenz (2001), Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid (2003), Tate Modern in London (2003), Reykjavik Art Museum (2004), Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg (2004), AroS Aarhus Kunstmuseum (2005), Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo (2005/2006), Malmö Konsthall (2005/2006), Kunstmuseum Bonn (2006), National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne (2007), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2007/2008), ZKM – Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe, Joan Miro in Barcelone, Kunstmuseum Basel, New York City Waterfalls, East River in New York (2008), Tanya Bonakdar Galleri In New York and Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art in Italy (2009).


In 2002 Olafur Eliasson was nominated for the prestigious international art award, the Hugo Boss Prize, which is awarded by a jury in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

In 2003 Eliasson was Denmark's representative at the Venice Biennial.
